FONTANA, CA -- Falken Tire, a leading high performance choice for driving enthusiasts on pavement and off-road, has just announced further expansion of its motorsports involvement in the popular and demanding off-road King of the Hammers event, running a new vehicle built by Off Road Evolution of Fullerton, CA, that will compete in the highly competitive Ultra4 Class. The Falken Tire factory team race vehicle will feature the Wildpeak A/T 37x13.50-R18 tire. King of the Hammers, known as the "toughest one-day off-road race," according to series organizers, will run for the sixth time on public lands in Johnson Valley, CA. Over the first five years the race has run, it has evolved from 12 teams to more than 150 teams competing before thousands of fans both live and online. The race will be run on Friday February 10, 2012. The custom tube chassis vehicle will be piloted by Falken Vice President of Marketing Andrew Hoit, an experienced off-roader, along with his co-driver, Ryan Hagel from RCH Designs in Huntington Beach, CA. The car is powered by an LS1 engine making more than 400hp, with a Turbo400 transmission and Atlas transfer case. The team is prequalified for the race but will set its starting position on Wednesday February 8th. This is Falken's first serious effort into off-road racing. Turn 10 has announced the next DLC content pack for their Forza Motorsport 4 title that will bring ten all-new cars to the Xbox 360 racer. Contrary to what the name might suggest, the American Le Mans Series pack doesn't consist purely of race cars associated with the American sports car racing series, racing machinery makes up a large chunk of the pack though. Aside from several road-going cars, the pack includes the 2011 Le Mans-winning Audi R18 TDI LMP1, the GT2 class Panoz Abbruzzi as well as the iconic rotary-powered Mazda 787B that won Le Mans in 1991 -- The first and only Le Mans victory for a Japanese manufacturer to date.
The Rolex 24 at Daytona ranks among the finest classics in international motorsport. The event has been thrilling the sports-car-fan community since 1962. Some of the greatest racers in history have entered their names on the winners' list--from Jacky Ickx and Hans Herrmann to Hurley Haywood, AJ Foyt and Derek Bell. Reinhold Joest, the founder of Audi Sport Team Joest, has won this Florida race too. Current Audi factory driver Mike Rockenfeller decided the competition in his favor with an American team two years ago. On the event's 50th anniversary, the organizer is treating the audience to an unusual experience. A champions party with numerous racing legends, an exhibition of historic overall-winning cars, a carnival complete with a Ferris wheel, a five-kilometer run on the track for all sports enthusiasts on Saturday before the race, autograph sessions and pit walks are just some of the attractions featured on the last weekend in January. "We are proud to be part of the action for the first time at the event's special anniversary," said Werner Frowein, managing director of quattro GmbH, which has developed the Audi R8 Grand-Am. "Two customer teams have already opted for our new race car, and we are currently in negotiations with other buyers. Following its appearance at Daytona, the Audi R8 Grand-Am will also be seen at the other 12 rounds of the Grand-Am series."
