The Jim Couch Foundation hosted the first annual Super 16 National Freshman Game at Baruch College in New York City on October 23rd, 2011. The Super 16 National Freshman Game celebrated Jim Couch's career; Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's first coach. This showcase is in honor of Couch's work in the New York City community as a leader and innovator of basketball training and mentorship. This event is an evolution: its genesis comes from the 2007 launched Jim Couch Reunion Games that featured the NBA's Kemba Walker and Tobias Harris as headliners; the 2008 Girls High School game featuring the best of Westchester vs. the best of NYC metro; the 2009 expansion that included regional teams from Boston, Connecticut, Albany, and New Jersey; and the 2010 Freshman Game that featured the top 9th graders from the New York Metro region vs. Long Island's top entering freshman. Alister McRae leads China Rally by 58 seconds after day 1 and seven stages of twisty mountain gravel stages contrasting with fast flowing concrete roads. McRae has not put a foot wrong all day and driving with confidence especially on the tight mountain sections. Team-mate Chris Atkinson is third and nearly two minute adrift and is unable to put a finger on why he hasn't been able to keep pace with McRae. The Proton's are split by Finnish driver Jari Ketomaa and while a minute down on McRae is ready to strike if the Scotsmen has any problems on the seconds day. Indonesian driver Rifat Sungkar has had a day to forget after two punctures cost the Pertamina-Cusco driver over 10 minutes and is currently down in 10th place overall.
Heres DCs Ken Block having a bit of fun in a rear wheel drive Ford Escort at the Team ONeal School with fellow rally driver Chris Atkinson. From more on Block and DC Rally, check out dcshoes.com/auto.
Engineering The World Rally Wales... Wet and Wild Wales is the team's last chance for glory and last chance to solve the problems with the car before testing begins for next season. It's a unique event with its December date almost guaranteeing that it will be the wettest, muddiest event of the year. The team goes to extreme lengths to get some grip out of the tyres as the conditions constantly change. Engineering The World Rally Finland and Germany... The Rough and the Smooth A break in the action gives the team a chance to get to the bottom of problems with the car's reliability and performance. After the short break, the season's second half jumps into high gear with smooth and rough courses just three days apart. The smooth is Germany, a tarmac rally notorious for unpredictable weather. The rough is Finland. It is run on gravel roads, is the fastest rally of the year and is famous for massive high-speed jumps. Engineering The World Rally Argentina... The Big Shake-Up We rejoin the Subaru team for a long trip to South America. This rally is the king of car-wreckers. The team must be prepared for roads fit for donkeys, for high-speed encounters with large rocks and for charges through deep river crossings. The team's poor start leads to a big shake up -- most significantly the departure of team boss David Lapworth after more than a decade at the helm. Paul Howarth takes over. He started with the team as an apprentice mechanic. Subaru World Rally Team Rally Argentina 2006 #5 Petter Solberg - Phil Mills #6 Chris Atkinson - Glenn Macneall Hungarian speech and commentary! Engineering The World Rally Sweden... Heaven or Hell Just one week after Monte Carlo, the Subaru Team heads to Sweden for one of the fastest and most spectacular rallies of the year -- run on snow and ice. But first, team boss David Lapworth needs to make sure they've fixed the problem that eliminated one of the team's cars in Monte Carlo. Sweden is driving heaven and hell. There's nothing quite like watching these cars hurtle through a sparkling white landscape. But the flipside is the inevitable wreckage. Petter and Chris keep the racing crew busy and their fortunes rise and fall in what turns out to be a very emotional rally. Engineering The World Rally Monte Carlo... or Bust? The year begins with a frantic dash to the start line. It's just days before the Monte Carlo Rally and the Subaru team's new €600000 car isn't ready. With an annual budget of €50000000, and constant pressure from the parent company in Japan to get results, the British-based team goes to extraordinary lengths to develop and improve every aspect of their car's design. Former champion Petter 'Hollywood' Solberg is hoping for a good start to the year with the new car at his least favourite rally. The team's two younger drivers -- Chris Atkinson and Stephane Sarrazin -- are fighting to win team boss David Lapworth's favour and a long-term contract.
